Biological Dentistry

Biological dentistry is the integration of dentistry and medicine. Our dentists are conventionally trained, but have additional study in holistic medicine, nutrition, and naturopathic medicine. NIHA dentists treat a patient's dental problems while evaluating the systemic impact on the rest of the body.Infections and imbalances in the oral cavity and jaw may contribute to chronic illness and pain in the head, neck, and other regions of the body.

The field of biological dentistry considers physical, mental, emotional, and systemic factors all to be important in achieving overall good health.   Unlike traditional dentistry which treats only symptoms, biological dentistry gets to the root causes that may contribute to trauma, irritation and toxicity. Biologic or holistic dentists also believe that all dental therapies should work in harmony with the body's natural ability to heal and repair itself.

With your total health in mind, our fragrance-free office is designed to be safe and comfortable for our allergic and chemically sensitive patients. If you are sensitive to dental products, we offer a special blood test  prior to dental work to ensure we use bio-compatible dental materials. We are a mercury free practice, and use a special oxygenated,  purified water system. 

We treat the entire family by offering routine preventive care and restorations and all the traditional dental specialties including root canals, periodontal care, reconstruction, cosmetic dentistry and major rehabilitation services.

Biological dentistry's great contribution to health and wellness is best summed up by Sir William Osler: "the next great advancement in medicine will come from dentists." Biological dentistry will, out of necessity, become the dental medicine of the 21st century.
