Dr. Robert Johnson is a leading biological dentist in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. He also has a certification as a Naturopath and a degree in Integrative Medicine (IMD-D), both from Capital University in Washington D.C.
Dr. Johnson graduated from Dental School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1979. That was followed by 2 years in the U.S. Naval Dental Corps and a Dental residency at Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1982.
Dr. Johnson practiced as a traditional dentist in New England (5 years) before realizing the tremendous connection between dental health and overall health. He felt that delivering traditional health and dental care was actually compromising his patient’s health. Once this realization became apparent he began his intensive journey to truly understand the connection between dental health and overall health. He has taken over 8000 hours of continuing education and has studied with the world’s most talented dentists and health practitioners. This has allowed Dr. Johnson to gain tremendous insight into the intricacies, nuances and interrelationships of how the body and the oral cavity function.
In his career Dr. Johnson has formed 2 dental clinics, collaborated in the original formation of National Integrated Health Associates (NIHA) and formed Natural Horizons Wellness Center in Fairfax, Virginia. He is now rejoining NIHA to assist in the development of NIHA as a premier Integrative Medicine and Dental Center.
As a dentist Dr. Johnson has honed his skills in restorative dentistry especially with healthy amalgam removal and dental surgery (extractions, periodontal surgery and cavitation removal). Two important skills he has developed as they relate to an integrative approach in dentistry are in orthodontics as it relates to body structure (osteopathy) and the placement of non-metal ceramic dental implants to replace missing teeth.
Dr. Johnson practices what he preaches by developing health and fitness protocols for his family. Additionally he has run 30 marathons and qualified for the 1984 Olympic Marathon Trials. He has also completed two Iron Man Triathlons in the late 1980’s. Presently he produces a weekly online newsletter (Optimal Health on a Budget). This newsletter will help educate people in the important aspects of health and quality of life. His personal interests include fitness, personal development and travel.
Dr. Johnson feels that the most important piece of health he can do for his patients and health clients is to first develop a good relationship with them. Dr. Johnson is happy to discuss your health and dental issues.
