Transaction Coordinator

Job Overview
The Transactions Coordinator provides the final contact for a patient visit and delivers the “closing services” that includes obtaining feedback on the visit, product fulfillment, processing the transaction, collecting money and making the next appointment.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Cordially and professionally receives the patient and ask these questions: “How was your visit today”; “Is there anything else we could have done today to serve you better”; “Do you have any questions”. Responses will be captured on yellow card.
2. Product requests will be fulfilled and appropriately charged.
3. Transacts the visit collecting payment for services.
4. Answers questions and reviews financial statements.
5. Generates insurance forms as applicable.
6. Makes the next patient appointment.
7. Provides a parking sticker as needed.
8. Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Must be organized, detail directed, neat and accurate.
2. Understand the basic principles of billing and accounting.
3. Computer literacy; navigate Nextgen practice management software in order to post payments and make appointments.
4. Ability to relate to people and make them feel comfortable.
5. Maintain confidential information.
6. Skilled at performing multiple tasks simultaneously.
7. Works collaboratively with other Transactions Coordinators.
8. Other duties as assigned.


Credentials and Experience
1. High school graduate.
2. One year of billing or other financial experience preferred.
3. Computer literacy.
4. Experienced with people regarding sales or payments.

Registered Nurse

NIHA has an Integrative Cancer Treatment Program that utilizes IPT (Insulin Potentiated Treatment) and other complementary modalities to support patients in their journey through cancer. We are seeking a full-time registered nurse to join our Integrative Cancer Team.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Starting IVs, accessing ports and drawing blood
- Administering chemotherapeutics and other medications
- Monitoring patients for medication side effects of therapy & intervening
- Understanding of chemotherapeutic medications & IPT principles
- Providing psychosocial support to patients and their families

Qualifications
Degree: AA in Nursing or BSN
License: RN – Licensed in Washington DC
BLS/CPR Up to date; ACLS preferred

Experience
- At least 2 years in clinical practice with experience in chemotherapy, oncology, ICU or ER
- Must be able to comfortably access ports & manage IV infusions

Considerations
- We are treating patients in an outpatient setting. If complications arise during treatment, the RN must be able to rapidly act and appropriately intervene. This includes possibly initiating CPR, hypoglycemia recovery, administering medications to reverse drug reactions and rapidly hydrating patients. This requires a high level of skill and sound clinical reasoning.
- We will teach IPT principles once hired.

Laboratory Coordinator

Job Overview
The Laboratory Coordinator is responsible for providing clinical support to patients in accordance with physicians’ orders as written in the EHR and in compliance with written protocols approved by the physicians. Key responsibilities include drawing and processing blood specimens while preparing appropriate financial and insurance information. The Laboratory Coordinator is also responsible for administering IV, IM and oral treatments in accordance with physicians’ orders. Administrative responsibilities include the scheduling of appointments, processing of encounter forms and other tasks as required. The Laboratory Coordinator creates a healing and cooperative atmosphere in the Lab environment.

General Duties and Responsibilities
1. Greets without delay each patient and family member who enters the Lab with a friendly and supportive attitude by identifying themselves and offering to assist them.
2. Confirms orders for any treatment being performed and consults Lab Manager or physician to clarify any information that is unclear.
3. Follows the standards for proper aseptic techniques, universal precautions and proper disposal of all used patient items.
4. Documents all treatments “in real time” completing all fields of information. Assists with scanning, indexing and filing of patient information.
5. Maintains a clean and organized Lab environment and participates in routine cleaning tasks as requested.
6. Communicates with all practitioners, NIHA staff, patients and families in a professional manner emphasizing a desire to be helpful and supportive.
7. Possesses efficient computer skills to navigate the electronic health records for patient information, orders and scanned documents.
8. Possesses skills with the business practice software to enter appointments and check basic patient information.
9. Maintains a professional relationship with all NIHA staff to foster a positive and cooperative experience in the Lab.
10. Demonstrates knowledge about treatments and provides patient education as needed.
11. Extends themselves by showing flexibility and eagerness to serve both the practitioners and patients.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
1. Confirms orders for any treatment and assembles/prepares all appropriate equipment and supplies according to requirements for specified test or procedures.
2. Understands the components and ingredients of all treatments including purpose, side effects and mechanism for working before administering them.
3. Draws blood or prepares IVs or IM injections following established standards of care and following universal precautions. Disposes of all materials “in real time” never leaving used patient materials to remain at the side table or on the IV pole after a treatment is completed.
4. Completes all patient required documentation in “real time”.
5. Prepares appropriate documentation and insurance information for blood specimens.
6. Properly labels and processes all specimens and records all tests in Lab Log Book.
7. Assures timely preparation of specimens and appropriate packing and distribution of specimens at end of the work day.
8. Completes an encounter form for each patient and makes a copy for Lab financial records.
9. Administers serums by mouth as outlined by Dr. Solomon’s protocol and uses appropriate consents and patient records.
10. Other related duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Must be organized, detail directed, neat and accurate.
2. Communicates in a calm and diplomatic manner.
3. Computer literate; navigate Allscripts electronic health records and practice management software; familiarity with Office Word preferred.
4. Ability to show patients and family member’s compassion, calmness and promote satisfaction with NIHA experience.
5. Maintain confidential information.
6. Skilled at performing multiple tasks simultaneously.
7. Knowledgeable about the treatments and modalities.
8. Demonstrates flexibility with changing work requests.
Credentials and Experience
1. High school graduate; some college preferred.
2. Experienced or certified as phlebotomist.
3. Medical office experience preferred.
4. Patient care experience preferred but not essential.
5. Computer literacy; experienced with electronic health records or practice management software preferred.
6. Knowledge of Integrative Medicine preferred.


Physical Ability Requirements:

a. Lifting: Lift no more than 20 pounds of packaged materials; able to help lift an adult patient out of a chair or wheelchair.
b. Standing: Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
c. Walking: Will need to walk around the office on a frequent basis to gather & distribute information, attend meetings and use copier.
d. Supporting: Able to assist patients to bathroom and help them in bathroom.
e. Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
f. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
g. Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward especially when helping a patient in a wheelchair.
h. Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips especially for starting IVs and drawing blood.

Colon Hydrotherapist

Part-time Colon Hydrotherapist, I-ACT certified, sensitive to patient’s needs and comfort. Must be able to work one or two Saturdays per month.

Specific tasks include:
• Obtain medical information from patient to determine whether contraindications are present for colon hydrotherapy.
• Record patients’ history in medical records.
• Prepare and maintain rooms and medical equipment for colon hydrotherapy sessions.
• Clean and sanitize medical instruments and laundry after use and dispose of contaminated supplies.

Required experience:
• Colon Hydrotherapy – one year, Libbe Certified therapist preferred
