What is CranioSacral Therapy?

CranioSacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on technique that treats the imbalance in the craniosacral motion of the bones of the skull and soft tissue. It can create an experience of safety and deep relaxation. This craniosacral_therapy_DC_MDgentle motion can have powerful effect on the process of healing of body and mind.

CranioSacral therapy can be a powerful addition to virtually any integrative medicine program. Osteopathic research has shown that the head bones rhythmically move in coordination with the sacrum. There is movement of the cranial bones and all the body tissues in a subtle, rhythmic pattern as the cerebrospinal fluid ebbs and flows. If there is restriction to that motion (from trauma, tissue damage or even traumatic memories), a person can have reduced adaptabilities to the stresses of life.

What to Expect with CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral therapy is like floating on water. Some people feel as if they are drifting in and out of sleep. Others have reported that they felt flow of energy in their chakra system. The sessions increase relaxation, bring a deeper sense of one's own body, and can enhance well-being. The profound changes have been  attributed to the effect upon the Autonomic Nervous System. Sessions are conducted fully clothed and at the end you are fully awake, alert and energized. It not uncommon for a patient to come in for one issue, but find improvement in other areas post-treatment.

The gentle, non-invasive CranioSacral therapy technique has been found to be effective in treating many issues for adults, children and infants including: ADHD, aging, Autism, cancer support, concussion/TBI,"Fussy baby syndrome",  chronic neck or back pain, fibromyalgia, headaches/migraines, insomnia, lupus, pain, stress, stroke, TMJ dysfunction, motor coordination. post motor vehicle accident issues, eye problems, dyslexia, stress, depression and anxiety, hyperactivity, and other central nervous system problems.
